When it comes to Oktoberfest opening hours, most sites mix up two different times: when the grounds close, and when the tents stop serving. The grounds often stay open for another hour after the large tents have stopped pouring beer.

What are the opening hours of the grounds?
The festival grounds, with their rides and stalls, follow a fixed weekly pattern, according to oktoberfest.de and the city's brochure for 2026.

2 October 2026 falls on a Friday, so the night before the public holiday on 3 October follows the long Friday rule anyway, until midnight.
Until what time do the tents serve beer?
This is where late arrivals come unstuck: beer service ends before the grounds close. In the large tents it stops at 10:30pm, whether the grounds stay open until 11:30pm or midnight.
The small tents serve until 11pm. Two exceptions run later: Käfer's Wiesn-Schänke and Kuffler's Weinzelt serve until 12:30am and close at 1am, the latest addresses on the grounds.

When does the opening Saturday start, and when does the beer begin?
On the first Saturday, 19 September 2026, the grounds and tents open as early as 9am, but there is no beer yet. The parade of the Wiesn landlords begins around 10:45am, and only after the tapping of the first keg at noon in the Schottenhamel tent does the first beer flow.
If you arrive before noon, you sit in a tent without beer, with soft drinks from 10am. That is not a mistake in the hours, just the fixed order of the opening day.
If you want to enjoy the last round without rushing, book a room close to the Wiesn before the weekend: after 10:30pm the U-Bahn into the centre is packed, and a room on the U4 or U5 saves the longest part of the evening. What are the opening hours of the Oide Wiesn?
According to muenchen.de, the Oide Wiesn, the historic section of the festival, opens daily 10am to 11:30pm. The city's brochure and in-muenchen.de give 10am to midnight for Friday and Saturday instead. Both come from official bodies, and neither source corrects the other.
Entry costs €4 per adult, with children up to age 14 free. If you arrive late at the weekend, go by the sign at the entrance, not by this page.
When are the grounds most crowded?
The official visitor barometer on oktoberfest.de has three levels: 10am to 3pm counts as quieter, 3pm to 6pm as filling up noticeably, and from 6pm as the busiest. The city publishes no curve by hour and day, only these three levels.
At weekends, large tents may temporarily stop letting in guests without a reservation in the window of 4pm to 6pm, according to the organisers' FAQ. This does not change the tent's opening hours, only access for guests without a table.
- Quiet, with open access: Monday to Thursday, from morning to early afternoon.
- Full, but still manageable: Friday evening and Sunday morning.
- Busiest: Saturday afternoon and evening, and the opening day from 11am.

The basic structure of the opening hours has been stable for several editions: the weekday pattern, beer service in the large tents ending at 10:30pm, and the exception for the two late tents. 2026 is the 191st Wiesn and lasts 16 days; in 2023 it still lasted 18 days.
