Weekend jobs in Munich: how long the shifts last
There are plenty of weekend minijobs in Munich, but little detail on shift length or travel. This page gathers what the ads really say, sector by sector.
Search for weekend jobs in Munich and you mostly find one thing: a lot of listings. One Munich job board alone counts 31,211 minijobs and side jobs in its weekend category, as of 2024.
What the ads almost never state is how long a shift really takes once you add the journey, and what is actually in demand at weekends. This page sorts that out by sector, using the figures that genuinely appear in job ads.
It is written for people who already live in or near Munich and are allowed to work in Germany. Who may take a minijob, and on what terms, is set by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit), not by the ads.
Which sectors have the most weekend side jobs?
- Hospitality and retail: cafés and restaurants specifically look for a "Wochenendkraft" or "Aushilfe am Wochenende" (weekend help), because Saturday and Sunday are their busiest trading days.
- Events and promotion: agencies such as InStaff or Greatstaff place people on one-off assignments at trade fairs, concerts and at the Oktoberfest itself.
- Delivery and logistics: weekend delivery shifts, often in flexible blocks.
- Health and care: companionship for older people and care work at weekends, sometimes as fixed weekend shifts rather than one-off assignments.
No platform publishes an overall breakdown between these sectors. The figure of 31,211 already lumps several categories together and does not rule out the same job appearing on more than one portal.
How long do the shifts really last?

None of these figures includes the time before and after the shift itself, such as briefing, collecting kit or clearing up. Industry experience points to 30 to 60 extra minutes per assignment; that is an editorial estimate, not a published figure.
What do the ads leave out about the commute?
None of the platforms reviewed gives a travel time. In Munich, most journeys within the city take 20 to 45 minutes by U-Bahn or bus in practice, depending on the distance between home and workplace.
For addresses outside the city limits, such as Ismaning, add an S-Bahn ride of 25 to 40 minutes each way. No ad states this; you only find out from the address. During the Oktoberfest, journeys around the Theresienwiese often take 10 to 20 minutes longer than usual because of the crowds.

In the wider centre (Altstadt-Lehel, Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt, Maxvorstadt and Schwabing), many job sites are 1 to 3 kilometres apart, a 15 to 35 minute walk. Two assignments on the same day are realistic if the first finishes by mid-afternoon (between 2pm and 4pm) and the second starts after 5pm.
No platform checks whether two assignments fit together in time and place. Applicants have to do that sum themselves before accepting two bookings.

What else should you watch out for at weekends?
- Staffing agencies are often unreachable on Sundays, even when the assignment itself is on a Sunday. That makes questions on the day difficult.
- Public offices are closed at weekends, which complicates last-minute contract issues, such as a missing tax ID (Steuer-ID).
- More than two assignments in one weekend of 4 to 7 hours each regularly lead to fatigue and delays, according to industry practice, and the platforms do not warn you about it.
